Factory's new podcast - Is TV for Me?

I’m Bena Jones, Production Assistant, Social Media Manager and Office Manager at Factory Films. I studied Media at the University of Brighton and last summer I got my Filmmaking MA from the University of Sussex. I was then lucky enough to begin my first role in TV with Factory.

Over the past couple of months I’ve helped Julie and Lisa record their first podcast sessions - which was a learning curve for all of us - as we got to grips with the different microphones, various recording apps and podcast style, all whilst trying to encourage the two of them not to talk over each other! It was my job to make notes in the room and then, working with the transcripts, produce the initial edits on Adobe Audition with Lisa and Julie’s guidance. I then delivered them to a brilliant audio guru, JJ Maurage (www.truepeak.com), who did a final pass to ensure they all sounded crisp and clear.

Having spent the final year of my BA degree studying in lockdown, it was really great for me to actually be in the room with so many of the industry professionals that the Factory team has worked with over the years - even though some of our guests did do the interviews remotely - I learnt a lot from all of them. I definitely didn’t know much about the role of casting within Factual TV, or the process of development before being involved in the podcast. Some of the terminology was new to me too - I learnt the difference between ‘online’ and ‘offline’ editing, and what VT stands for. The episodes are short interviews featuring Lisa, Julie and that episode's guest, each of which concludes with the guest’s five top tips - and they have tons of useful information to pass on.

You can listen wherever you get your podcasts and you can find it on Acast here: https://shows.acast.com/is-tv-for-me/episodes

I hope everyone who listens enjoys them, because we had a lot of fun making them!
